Work Visas

Procare USA handles all immigration issues and paperwork for qualified Canadian Registered Nurses.
Our staff includes in-house immigration and licensing specialists who provide you with their assistance throughout the process.

Some general immigration information is provided below. Nurses are encouraged to email or call toll free at 800.877.6785 for more advice related to their specific situation.

TN Visa (Temporary Work/Entry)
Registered Nurses who are citizens of Canada may temporarily work in the United States under provisions of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Our experienced staff will guide you through the necessary steps to attain legal entry status. We can also advise on work/entry requirements for dependents traveling with you.

The following is a list of required documentation for applicants seeking admission under NAFTA. All documents must be originals or certified copies and prepared in English (certified translations may be accepted). Please note non-Canadian citizen dependents of Canadian nurses may need special arrangements.

1. Current RN license for the state of intended employment
2. Current Canadian RN license (not really essential, but advisable in some cases)
3. RN Education Diploma that must show the applicant completed a course of
education leading to professional recognition as a Registered Nurse
4. Original, signed, letterhead employment offer letter from the U.S. employer. The letter
must show title (Registered Nurse), duties, income details, hours (full-time) and closed
date frame (example - June 21, 2008 through June 20, 2009)
5. Canadian Birth (wallet size will do) or naturalization certificate and/or passport
proving Canadian citizenship for everyone traveling. Passports must be valid for at
least six months beyond the intended length of stay in the U.S.
6.
Port of Entry/BCBP processing fee currently is $50.00 U.S. base fee and $6.00 for each
person petitioning for entry (Fees are subject to change.)
7. Marriage certificate or any other evidence of legal name changes
8. VisaScreen Certificate (also known as Health Care Worker Certification)

Once Port of Entry processing is complete, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly known as INS) Officer will issue an arrival/departure record card to each applicant, usually for a period of 12 months. In effect, this card (also referred to as an I-94 document) is the authorization to work and live temporarily in the United States.
